Incredible job Sean! Arrival really is a story of grief and pain. I’ll never forget how sad I felt for Abbott. Ultimately choosing to come help Earth yet knowing you’d meet your fate in doing so. Powerful stuff.
As the parent of a child with an illness, this movie is very special to me. Not only because of the parallels I see in my personal experiences but because of the way it touched my son when we saw it in the theater. As my son has grown older his indifference towards movies has advanced to a maddening point (especially since I love all things movie-related). Yet this movie is one of the exceptions. It was one that grabbed his attention in its advertising, held his attention throughout the movie-going experience, and encouraged engaged discussion after the fact. For that alone, I will always hold this film in high regard.
