The most divisive entry to the Star Wars saga is neither perfect nor a failure. It's a well-made movie with a few flaws that prevented it from becoming a masterpiece — and that's okay.
I agree with basically everything here and felt the exact same way. Finn should've sacrificed himself, I loved Luke, Rey and Kyle in this movie. Plus the comedy killed those scenes for me too. Disney needs more star wars like this, I love this movie. Some days I feel like it's my favorite one of them all, others it falls out of my top 4.
Btw man always loved your takes on the Pick 6 Podcast, glad you're doing it with film now. The depth and writing style is amazing. I've always wanted a blog this well written about film.
Also for I'd love to see an analysis of the SW prequels or even the Clone Wars show one day. They still always hold a special place in my heart from growing up. The Phantom Menace will always be my favorite prequel. Dave Filoni (Head guy for Clone Wars and Mandalorian if you don't know, but you probably do) talked about the Phantom Menace and how awesome it is and disects it in like 6-10mins on the Mandalorian documentary. You should listen to it if you haven't already.
hey, thanks so much, Andrew! Means a lot! glad to hear someone else feels the same way about TLJ. Too often, I feel like people either love it or hate it. You can definitely count on a prequels post at some point. I'm a bit of a defender of the trilogy while acknowledging there are some clear flaws and limitations.
